Poland Offers Leading Logistical Role in Ukraine Peace Framework
After the Coalition of the Willing summit in Paris, Prime Minister Donald Tusk explained that each major responsibility in the emerging security and reconstruction framework for Ukraine would be assigned to a designated “national leader,” stressing that Poland’s involvement in the peace process “must be key and fundamental.”
Tusk highlighted that the U.S. delegation at the Paris talks pointed to Poland as a model of post-communist economic and institutional transformation, suggesting Ukraine could “follow the Polish path” if a lasting settlement is secured.
During the meeting, Washington and its European partners agreed to create a ceasefire monitoring mechanism for Ukraine under U.S. leadership, forming part of a broader set of security guarantees intended to secure durable peace.
The summit gathered leaders and senior officials from 35 nations, NATO, the EU, and Ukraine.
Tusk emphasized that the discussions centered on detailed solutions, particularly security assurances and the division of responsibilities among participating states. He confirmed Poland’s readiness to assume critical roles — especially in organizing logistics — while clarifying that Polish forces are not expected to be deployed inside Ukraine.
He underlined that progress toward peace requires sustained pressure on Russia, noting that outcomes ultimately depend on the aggressor’s willingness to negotiate. He struck a cautious tone, saying it was premature to declare significant breakthroughs.
Tusk also mentioned plans to meet with Polish President Karol Nawrocki later this week to define responsibilities between the government and the presidency as the diplomatic process advances.
